CONCEITO "IR CAGAR À MATA"

INTERNATIONAL ROCA DESIGN COMPETITION 2005
THE HOTEL BATHROOM OF THE FUTURE
- nature mind escape -

In the stressfull days we live, calm and relaxing moments became more precious and hard to achive.
The idea of a short rented moment away from the confusion of the everyday routine, where you can spend quality time with yourself, isolated from the world, deep in the a peaceful aura become the guidelines of this design.

In opposite to the routined stressed days where priviteness becomes harder to estabish and maintain, this hotel bathroom offers an opportunity to distance yourseft from that reality, the reality we try to escape and cut off at the end of the day.

These bounderies allow the transposition of the body to this entire different universe is given by flooding the senses with a simulated location miles away from any sign of civilization, surrounded in a natural environment untouched by human hand.

The creation of virtual windows to these landscapes provides the bathroom with versitility otherwise compromised by real openings to real world – frequently marked by concrete.

These controlled windows provide ambience, artificial light and colour to the space, the theme chosen caries the idea of seclusion and introspection as well. Its potencial becomes unlimited.

The nature theme, the forests’ images assume an important role, defining resting cubicles within the space of the bathroom.
The window like appearence gives the gazing eye a resting sigh.
Like in these landscapes the natural element which outstands the most is the water, even if it is only implicit.

The symbolic treatment of the bathroom utilities, the bathtub a pond like depression to soak the senses and wash the stress away, while enjoying a video projection on the middle glass wall. Pre chosen images, Dvd or Tv these are the possibilities of entertainment while bathing.
The cascade like shower where water falls over river pebbles – throught a wall made of transparent coloured resin and pebbles which allows light to escape and iluminate the room.
The form used in the ceramics ilustrates a symbolic characteristics of confort, isolation, and protection of the nest. Once more the idea of seclusion is underlined.

The isolation from the outside world keeps us secure from the agressive environment of our everyday life – the egg like shape sectioned transforming itself in washbasign, toillet and bidet.
Gracefully delicate like the egg shell, the white mate china produces round shaped forms which sets gently in space like in the delicate disposition in the nest.

The wood appears in the bigger water related areas like bamboo and willow trees soaking quietly their roots in the water edge.

The lighting of the room is assured by the vistual windows in the sitting areas and complemented by lighted vertical elements crossing the center space.
The resin wall and glass wall axis separate the distinctive areas by mater and light

The meditative posture of simplicity and purity of lines reflect in the philosophy design concept.

The elegant form in the water system transboarding like delicate canes and leafs leading the water down to the earth after falling a tropical rain.
The pure lines and simplicity of the space and treatment intended not to provoque any other feelings than rest, relaxation, refuge and confort. Trying not to demnad much optical stimulation and indeed gather the basic means for a well rested time in the hotel (bath)room creating almost like a meditating room where the mind can elevate from the body and travel to a distant peaceful natural landscape – miles away from our reality.
